Hatters Go 1-for-2 in Malibu

Malibu, Calif. -- The 10th-ranked Stetson Hatters split a pair of duals at Zuma Beach on Saturday, defeating No. 14 Long Beach State 4-1 before falling by the same score to No. 9 Pepperdine.

The Hatters (7-4) picked up wins at the 1, 2, 3, and 5 seeds to defeat LBSU for the second year in row. 

No. 2 Pair Sunniva Helland-Hansen and Carly Perales won 21-15, 21-17 to secure Stetson's first point of the dual. No. 3 Pair Yasmin Kuck and Shae Henson earned a 21-10, 21-18 victory to give the Hatters a 2-0 lead.

After LBSU won on Court 4 to cut the deficit to 2-1, No. 5 Pair Rebecca Ingram and Quinci Birker registed a 15-21, 21-14, 15-9 three-set win to clinch the match.

Ana Costa and Kyce Martins ran their win streak to 10 with a hard-fought 2-1 (21-18, 15-21, 18-16) victory on Court 1.

The victory was Stetson's fourth Top 20 win of the season.

The Hatters turned right around to face the Waves in the second of back-to-back duals.  Helland-Hansen and Perales won 2-0 (21-14, 21-19) on Court 2 to produce the lone point of the dual for Stetson. Pepperdine won in two sets on Court 3, while Courts 1, 4, and 5 all went to three sets.  The Waves prevailed in all three to earn a 4-1 victory.

Helland-Hansen earned her 87th career victory, moving her past Darby Dunn and into third all-time in school history.  Perales became the fifth Hatter all-time to reach 80 career wins.

Stetson will head down to Oceans Beach Park in Santa Monica for a tripleheader on Sunday.  The Hatters will face #15 South Carolina, #14 Long Beach State, and #8 Loyola Marymount beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
