Hatters Win One, Drop Two in Santa Monica

Santa Monica, Calif. -- Playing a tripleheader against three Top 20 opponents, the 10th-ranked Hatters won one of three duals Sunday at the Ocean Park Beach Courts. Stetson (8-6) defeated No. 14 Long Beach State 3-2, but fell 3-2 to No. 15 South Carolina and 4-1 to No. 8 Loyola Marymount to conclude its California trip with a 2-3 mark.

No. 2 Pair Sunniva Helland-Hansen and Carly Perales won all three matches Sunday to run their win streak to nine in a row. They have not dropped a set during the win streak (18-0), which includes victories over seven ranked opponents.

Helland-Hansen also became just the second player in school history to record 90 career wins. She trails the school record holder Rachel Noble by six victories.

The Hatters have posted five wins against Top 20 competition this season.

Stetson will return home next weekend to host the Stetson Beach Blast. No. 3 Florida State, No. 4 Hawai'i, No. 5 Southern Cal and UAB will join the field.
