Lynn Bria Elected Chair of the NCAA Women's Basketball Rules Committee

Hatter Coach Begins Two-Year Term on Sept. 1

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson University women's basketball head coach Lynn Bria has been elected to serve as Chair of the NCAA Women's Basketball Rules Committee for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. She has served as a committee member since 2018.

Bria was elected by the 12 voting members of the rules committee to succeed Linda Cimino of St. Francis College Brooklyn, who completed her term on August 31. The NCAA Women's Basketball Rules Committee is a group of 13 members that includes the nonvoting secretary rules-editor, head coaches, athletic directors, and faculty athletic representatives spanning across all three divisions in the NCAA.

As the national committee chair, Bria will lead the annual meetings and conference calls, will work closely with the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) Playing Rules and Officiating Group Committee, and will speak at the Division I, II and III business meetings at the Final Four. She will work closely with Jon Levinson, the secretary-rules editor and Rachel Seewald, the Associate Director of Playing Rules Administration at the NCAA.

In her 25 career seasons as a head coach, Bria has amassed a total of 375 victories at four different institutions.  Over the past 12 seasons at Stetson, Bria has won over 220 games and advanced to postseason play nine times.  She guided the Hatters to ASUN Conference championships in 2011, 2013 and 2017, NCAA Tournament berths in 2011 and 2013, and she earned ASUN Coach of the Year honors in 2017.

During her tenure with the Hatters, Bria has seen 83 of her players earn weekly conference awards and 46 players earn postseason awards.  Eight different student-athletes have gone on to sign professional contracts.

Bria has served as an NCAA Championship regional selection committee member and a voter in the USA Today Top 25 Coaches Poll.  She was a Judy Sweet Award recipient at the 2013 NCAA Women's Coaching Academy.

Bria, a 1990 graduate of the University of Charleston, was inducted into her alma mater's Hall of Fame in 2003.
