Hatters Fall to FGCU in Straight Sets

Anabelle Standish leads the Hatters with nine kills

DeLand, Fla. -- Erin Shomaker led all players with 16 kills as FGCU defeated Stetson 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-20) Saturday evening at the Edmunds Center.  

The Eagles (16-4, 8-0 ASUN) extended their win streak to nine in a row and remained undefeated in league play.

Despite the loss, the Hatters (9-11, 4-4 ASUN) battled on defense, picking up 49 digs and four blocks in the three sets.

"I thought our effort was great," Stetson head coach Yang Deng said.  "We knew coming into the game that we needed to fight, we needed to battle and forget about the great players they have. I liked the effort and how we played.  This could be a turning point in the season as to how well we play together as a team."

Anabelle Standish led the Hatters with nine kills.  Kennedy Muldrow hit a career-high .571 on an eight-kill, no-error performance.  She added a solo block and a block assist. Alejandra Perez picked up 15 digs.  Nyah Molina registered a 24-assist, 14-dig double-double.

FGCU outhit Stetson .353 to .102.

The Hatters will play their second crossover event next weekend when they face Eastern Kentucky, Lipscomb and Bellarmine at UNF.
