Hatters Sweep Eastern Kentucky To Open Crossover Weekend

Elena Djokovic leads all players with 15 kills

Jacksonville, Fla. -- After holding off late Eastern Kentucky runs in the first two sets, Stetson put the pedal down in third set to complete a 3-0 sweep over the Colonels Friday morning at UNF Arena.

The Hatters won by scores of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-16 to improve to 10-11 overall and 5-4 in ASUN play.

Stetson hit .263 for the match and registered 49 digs and seven blocks in route to its fifth sweep of the season.

In the first set, the Hatters appeared well in control at 23-15 and 24-17, but the Colonels (6-17, 3-6 ASUN) staved off five set points before an attack error gave Stetson a 25-22 victory.

In the second set, Djokovic rattled off four consecutive kills to break open an 11-11 tie.  Stetson led 20-13 before EKU stormed back once again to pull within two at 24-22.  The Hatters nailed down the final point to lead 2-0 at the break.

In the final set, Stetson hit .433 as a team and finished the frame on a 10-2 run to seal the victory.

The top two kills leaders in the ASUN, Stetson's Elena Djokovic and EKU's Molly Michalak, went head-to-head for the first time this season.  Djokovic led all players with 15 kills, while Michalak led the Colonels with 14 kills.  Michalak still holds a slim lead in the overall season totals with 281 kills, while Djokovic is the ASUN leader in conference play with 132 kills.

Stetson also got big performances form its two middles.  Kaylee Oscarson registered nine kills, two blocks and a .421 attack percentage, while Kennedy Muldrow collected seven kills, five blocks, and .357 attack percentage.

Nyah Molina registered her 14th double-double of the season with a 31-assist, 13-dig effort.  She also served a season-high four aces.  Alejandra Perez collected 12 digs as well.

The Hatters improved to 3-1 against ASUN West Division teams and to 7-0 when winning the first set.  Stetson will face Lipscomb at 11 a.m. Saturday as crossover weekend continues.
