Hatters Sweep Jacksonville Behind Thompson's Big Night

Jacksonville, Fla. -- Senior middle blocker Alexis Thompson recorded a career-high 14 kills with no errors and hit for a career-best .700 as Stetson swept Jacksonville 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-20) Saturday evening at Swisher Gym.

With the victory, the Hatters (8-9, 3-2 ASUN) improved to 3-2 in the ASUN and moved into sole possession of third place in the tightly contested ASUN East Division.

As a team, Stetson hit .312 for the match and held the Dolphins (4-13, 1-4) to a .129 mark.  Thompson's .700 percentage ranked as the second-best single-game mark for a Hatter in the rally scoring era (based on a minimum of 20 attempts).

The first set proved to be the tightest as the team's battles through seven ties and three lead changes.  Jacksonville rallied from 19-14 down to tie the set at 19, but Stetson scored six of the final seven points to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Hatters cruised to a 25-15 win in set 2 behind an errorless effort by the offense.  Stetson hit .467 (14-0-30) in the frame to take a 2-0 lead at the break.

Stetson used an early 6-1 run in the third set and a strong sideout percentage to close out the match in three.

Elena Djokovic tallied 11 kills and Anabelle Standish added seven kills. Nyah Molina recorded a double-double with 37 assists and 11 digs.  Alejandra Perez (13 digs) and Standish (10 digs) joined Perez in double figures.  Yamelis Mojica and Kaylee Oscarson recorded four blocks apiece.

The Hatters will return home next weekend to host Liberty and Kennesaw State in a pair of ASUN East Division matchups.
