Hatters square off against FGCU before ASUN championship

Fort Myers, Fla. -- A week after clinching a spot in the 2021 ASUN championship tournament, the Stetson University men's soccer team closes out its regular season on Saturday, Oct. 30 as the Hatters travel to FGCU to take on the Eagles in one last regular season ASUN match. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Pickering Field.
 
Recap
The Stetson men's soccer team comes off a 4-2 win over Bellarmine back on Oct. 23. Ajmeer Spengler, the reigning ASUN player of the week, tallied two goals and an assist while Lewis Scattergood and Nelson Pereira each netted a goal for the Hatters. 
 
Scouting the Eagles
FCGU enters play on Saturday with a 3-7-1 overall record and 3-3-0 in ASUN action. The Eagles come off a 1-0 win over North Florida back on Oct. 23. Darius Kerr-Cooper scored the match's lone goal on an assist from Marcos Da Paz. 
 
The Eagles offense goes through O'Vante Mullings as he leads the Eagles with six goals on the year and 12 points. Kerr-Cooper has three assists to go along with one goal on the season. Four different Eagles have a single goal and two points while six other FGCU players have tallied one assist. Eagles keeper Gustavo Vasconcelos has seen the most time between the pipes for FGCU, compiling a 3-5 record, a .750 save percentage, and three shutouts on the year.
 
All-Time Series
Stetson and FGCU have met 16 times, with the Eagles holding an 8-5-3 record in the all-time series. However, the Hatters got the best of the Eagles 2-1 back on April 2. Stetson looks to make it two in a row on Saturday night.
 
Hatters Notes
The Hatters come into Saturday's match with a 7-5-2 overall record and 4-2 in ASUN play. Stetson's dynamic and young offense is led by Pereira as the freshman enters play with a team high seven goals and 16 points on the year. Spengler and Oliver Bryneus each have five goals and Scattergood has netted three. Stetson is tied for 45th in the nation with 27 total goals and sits alone at 38th with 1.93 goals per game.
 
Looking Ahead
After Saturday's slate of matches, the field will be set for the 2021 ASUN Championship Tournament. The ASUN Quarterfinal round begins Friday, Nov. 5.
