Hatters Fall to Kennesaw State 3-2

Stetson goes the distance once again

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson rallied from a 2-0 deficit to force a fifth set, but Kennesaw State prevailed 15-9 in the final frame to earn a 3-2 victory over the Hatters Saturday night at the Edmunds Center.

The Owls (9-8, 3-3 ASUN) won by scores of 25-19, 25-16, 17-25, 22-25, 15-9.

After winning their first three five-setters of the season including a 3-2 win over Liberty Friday night, the Hatters (9-10, 4-3 ASUN) fell just a few points short on Saturday.

"We are definitely getting a lot of learning experience," Stetson head coach Yang Deng said. "We have so many young players on the court. They are contributing and doing pretty well, and we need them to, it's just about sustaining a level of play.

"Overall, I am proud of the way we fought and came back," Deng added. "It was a little too late, but it was still a good game."

Elena Djokovic recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 16 kills and 10 digs.  Beatriz Vossen added 10 kills for the Hatters, who hit .158 in the match.  Vossen also collected a team-high five blocks.

Nyah Molina registered her 13th double-double with a 37-assist, 11-dig performance. Alejandra Perez picked up 16 digs, and Leilani Vitale came off the bench to record 12 digs.

Emma Schurfranz led KSU with 25 kills. Stetson netted 10 blocks on Saturday to increase its weekend total to 31.

The Hatters will remain home next weekend and will host East Division leader FGCU at 6 p.m. Saturday.
