Hatters Fall to FGCU in Regular Season Finale

Stetson Shifts Focus To ASUN Championship

Fort Myers, Fla. -- Cortney VanLiew and Aja Jones each recorded 15 kills as FGCU defeated Stetson 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-19) in the 2021 regular season finale Saturday evening at Alico Arena.

Elena Djokovic led the Hatters (13-15, 8-8 ASUN) with 10 kills.  Nyah Molina registered her league-leading 22nd double-double of the season, collecting 25 assists and 13 digs.  Alejandra Perez picked up 20 digs, moving her into a tie for fifth among the Stetson's single-season digs leaders (445).

The Eagles improved to 23-5 overall and 15-1 in the ASUN.

The Hatters completed the regular season on the same floor where they will compete for the ASUN Championship next week.

Stetson (13-15) will be the No. 4 seed in the East Division and will face the top seed in the West, Jacksonville State (23-5), in the quarterfinals at 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon at Alico Arena.

The winner will advance to play the winner of the Eastern Kentucky-Kennesaw State match in the semifinals at 4 p.m. Friday.  The championship match will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday.

All seven ASUN Championship matches will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

The Hatters are making their fourth straight postseason appearance under head coach Yang Deng.  Stetson and Jacksonville State met in the first conference match of the season, back on Sept. 24. The Gamecocks won 3-0 behind a 17-block effort.

Overall, Stetson went 4-2 against ASUN West Division opponents this season.

Stetson's last postseason win came in 1995, ironically enough against Jacksonville State during the program's first stint in the conference.  JSU leads the all-time series 8-7.

The Hatters are seeking their conference championship since 1985.  Stetson has never earned an NCAA tournament berth.

Tickets can be purchased through the FGCU ticket office and start at $8.00 per session. Admission is free for ASUN students with a school ID.
