Hatters host College of Charleston to finish out three-game homestand

DeLand, Fla. -- The Stetson University men's basketball team gets set to conclude its three-game home stretch on Thursday, Dec. 16 as the Hatters host College of Charleston at the Edmunds Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+. 
 
Recap
Stetson comes off a 104-58 win over Johnson University Monday night as the Hatters put up their largest margin of victory this season. Chase Johnston led all Hatters scorers with 17 points while Christiaan Jones tallied 16 of his own and four others recorded double figures. As a team, the Hatters recorded 50 rebounds and shot over 50 percent from the field, going 44-for-82 on the night. Stetson's 104 points were the most in a game since defeating Johnson 116-66 back on Nov. 7, 2018. 
 
Scouting the Cougars
College of Charleston enters Thursday's action with a 7-3 overall record as the Cougars have won two in a row and three of their last four. The Cougars topped Tulane for the second time this year 86-72 on Dec. 7 and then most recently bested Presbyterian 78-76 in overtime on Dec. 12. 
 
The Cougars offense is led by Reyne Smith and John Meeks as College of Charleston's leading scorers average 14.2 and 14.1 points per game, respectively. Brenden Tucker follows with 11.8 points per game while Dimitrius Underwood averages 9.7 points a game, 6.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists. As a team, the Cougars shoot 41.7 percent from the field and 36.7 percent from beyond the arc and have outscored their opponents 82.1-79.5 on the season thus far. 
 
All-Time Series
Stetson and College of Charleston have met 21 times in school history as the Cougars hold a 14-7 record in the all-time series against the Hatters. The two schools last met almost exactly 19 years ago to the day as the Cougars got the best of the Hatters 66-64 on Dec. 15, 2002. The Cougars currently boast a 12-game winning streak over the Hatters as Stetson will try to break the streak Thursday night. 
 
Hatters Notes
After its win over Johnson, the Hatters enter Thursday night's contest with a 3-6 overall record and look to end its homestand with a winning record over the three games. In Monday night's win, junior Rob Perry reached the 1000-career point threshold after sinking a 3-point field goal early in the first half. 
 
Perry leads the Hatters with 13.7 points per game while Johnston is averaging 12.3 and Jones, 10.3. As a team, Stetson is shooting 42.6 percent from the field and 30.6 percent from three-point range. 
 
Looking Ahead
After Stetson concludes its homestand, the Hatters head to Coral Gables on Monday, Dec. 20 to take on the Miami Hurricanes. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+ and ACC Network Extra.
