Hatters Split With TCU, FAU on Opening Day

DeLand, Fla. -- Facing a pair of Top 15 opponents, Stetson opened its 2021 season with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over No. 15 TCU Saturday morning at the Cooper Beach Courts.

The 11th-ranked Hatters nearly pulled off another rally in their second dual of the day, but No. 12 FAU held on for a 3-2 victory.

In the first match, Stetson and TCU split at the 4 and 5 pairs before the Horned Frogs grabbed a 2-1 lead with a win at Pair 1.

At Pair 3, Yasmin Kuck and Ganriella Bramante battled their way to a 19-21, 23-21, 15-13 win to even the match 2-2. Moments later, Kamryn Johnson and Shae Henson completed a 21-17, 21-18 victory on Court 2 to clinch the decisive point.

Aleksandra Stadnik and Lauren Della also captured an 18-21, 23-21, 15-12 victory at Pair 5.

Against FAU, the Hatters picked up wins once again from Johnson and Henson at Pair 2 and from Bramante and Kuck at Pair 3, but the Owls slipped past with wins at the 1, 4, and 5 seeds to improve to 2-0 on the day.

The Hatters will continue the Stetson Spring Fling on Sunday with duals vs. No. 13 FIU and No. 14 South Carolina.
