Hatters Edged Twice at FAU Beach Bash

Boca Raton, Fla. -- In two tightly contested duals that each came down to the wire, Stetson fell 4-1 to No. 1 Florida State and 3-2 to No. 12 Florida Atlantic Friday afternoon at the FAU Beach Bash.

The 14th-ranked Hatters (9-5) narrowly missed upsetting the top-ranked and undefeated Seminoles (15-0). Carly Perales and Ana Costa delivered a terrific performance on court 1, defeating Alaina Chacon and Molly McBain 21-15, 22-20. It was Stetson's first-ever Pair 1 win against a No. 1 ranked opponent.

That victory made the score 2-1 in favor of Florida State with Pairs 2 and 3 each headed to a third set. The Seminoles came away with 15-12 and 15-13 wins at those two courts, respectively, to earn the 4-1 victory.

Against FAU (6-4), the Hatters secured a 21-15, 21-17 win on court 5 from Aleksandra Stadnik and Madison Bobes and a 21-12, 21-19 win on court 2 from Shae Henson and Kamryn Johnson. The dual came down to court 3, where the Owls won a 3-set battle 19-21, 21-16, 15-13 to win the match 3-2.

The Hatters will return to action Saturday when they face UAB at 11 a.m. and FGCU at 3 p.m.
