Perales Wins 100th but Hatters Fall Twice on Sunday

Columbia, S.C. -- Senior Carly Perales became the first player in school history to win 100 dual matches, but No. 16 Stetson dropped a pair of tightly contested duals Sunday afternoon at the Gamecock Grand Slam.

The Hatters (13-9) came up short on a 3-2 decision to No. 9 TCU and fell 4-1 to No. 17 Georgia State to finish the weekend with a 1-3 mark.

Perales and Ana Costa were victorious in both matches at Pair 1.  Against TCU, the duo defeated Tania Moreno Mateeva and Danela Alvarez 24-22, 21-11.  Against Georgia State, the pair defeated Maddy Delmonte and Eden Hawes 18-21, 21-16, 16-14.  The second match gave Perales her milestone victory.  She and Costa are now 16-6 on the season with seven wins over Top 20 opponents.

Perales' first career win also came at Wheeler Beach back in 2017.  That victory, along with her first 84 wins, came with partner Sunniva Helland-Hansen.

The Hatters will return to action next weekend at the College of Charleston Beach Classic.
