Hatters Win Twice Saturday; Go 4-0 at Coastal Carolina Invitational

Conway, S.C. -- In a rematch from their week 1 battle in DeLand, No. 16 Stetson rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat No. 13 South Carolina 3-2 Saturday morning at the CCU Beach Volleyball complex. The Hatters (5-3) then swept UNCW 5-0 to complete the Coastal Carolina Invitational with a perfect 4-0 mark.

Six days ago, the Gamecocks were 3-2 victors over the Hatters in DeLand.  Head coach Kristina Hernandez flipped her 2 and 3 seeds in the lineup, and on Saturday, both pairs delivered crucial wins.

In the first wave, South Carolina won at Pair 4 and Pair 5 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.  Stetson got its first point at Pair 2 with a 21-18, 21-18 victory by Gabriella Bramante and Yasmin Kuck.  At Pair 1, Ana Costa and Carly Perales fell behind 1-0 before rallying for a 13-21, 21-16, 15-12 three-set victory.  Shae Henson and Kamryn Johnson secured the clinching point at Pair 3 with a 21-10, 21-14 triumph.

The Hatters top 3 seeds all went 4-0 on the weekend. Perales moved past Kristin Lind and into third place among Stetson's all-time wins leaders with her 89th career victory.  She is one shy of tying her former partner Sunniva Helland-Hansen at 90.

Stetson won at all five pairs against UNCW, including Alicia Harrington and Lauren Domel at Pair 4 and Aleksandra Stadnik and Madison Bobes at Pair 5.

Stetson will return home on Tuesday to face UNF in a double dual.  First serve is scheduled for noon.
