Ospreys Hold Off Hatters to Win ASUN Beach Championship

DeLand, Fla. -- UNF held off a major comeback effort by Stetson to win the 2021 ASUN Beach Volleyball Championship 3-2 Sunday afternoon at the Cooper Beach Courts.

After advancing to the final with a 3-2 win over FGCU earlier in the day, the Ospreys (24-10) took a quick 2-0 lead over the Hatters (19-13) with victories at pairs 4 and 5.

In the second wave, Stetson battled back with wins at pairs 2 and 3 to tie the dual 2-2. Kamryn Johnson and Shae Henson won 21-11, 21-19 on Court 3 while Yasmin Kuck and Gabriella Bramante won 21-14, 23-21 on Court 2.

The match was decided on Court 1 where Dana Roskic and Antonia Harrison squeaked past Ana Costa and Carly Perales in a heart-stopping three-set battle. After the Stetson duo cut an 12-9 deficit down to 14-13, the Osprey pair produced the final point to clinch the title.

The loss halted Stetson's streak of three consecutive ASUN championships and 11 straight ASUN postseason victories. The Hatters played in the championship match for the eighth consecutive time.

Following the match, Costa and Perales were named to the ASUN all-tournament team.
