Hatters Win Twice at CofC Classic on Saturday

Stetson defeats No. 18 Georgia State 3-2

Mt. Pleasant, S.C. -- Stetson rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat 18th-ranked Georgia State 3-2 Saturday afternoon at the Creekside Tennis and Swim Club. The Hatters (15-9) then swept the College of Charleston 5-0 to go 2-0 on the first day of the CofC Beach Classic.

Against Georgia State (16-10), Stetson recorded wins at Pairs 1, 2 and 3 for its sixth win against a Top 20 opponent this year.

Ana Costa and Carly Perales had the decisive point against the Panthers at Pair 1. With the dual tied 2-2, Costa and Perales defeated Eden Hawes and Maddy Delmonte 21-17, 21-19.

The Hatters also got 2-0 wins from Yasmin Kuck and Gabriella Bramante at Pair 2 and from Shae Henson and Kamryn Johnson at Pair 3.

The dual was Stetson's seventh consecutive match against a Top 20 opponent.

Stetson won at all five pairs against the Cougars (7-9-1), including a 2-1 win by Brittany McLean and Noelle Weintraub at Pair 4 and a 2-0 win by Aleksandra Stadnik and Lauren Domel at Pair 5.

The CofC Beach Classic continues Sunday as Stetson meets Tusculum at 12 p.m.
