Hatters open 2021 campaign against Winthrop

DeLand, Fla. –- The Stetson University men's soccer team opens its 2021 campaign on Thursday, Aug. 26 as the Hatters take on the Eagles of Winthrop University. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the ATC. Admission is $5.00 or free with a Stetson University ID.

Preseason
Stetson comes off three preseason matches in which the Hatters faced off against No.13-ranked UCF, Rollins College and FIU.

All-Time Series
The Hatters look to take a one game advantage over the Eagles, and their second in a row, as the all-time series between the two schools is tied 1-1.

When Last We Met
Stetson and Winthrop last met almost two seasons ago, on Sept. 13, 2019. The Hatters shutout the Eagles 2-0. In 2013, Winthrop got the best of the Hatters and downed Stetson 5-2.

Returners and Newcomers
Stetson welcomes 10 newcomers to the program and returns 27 Hatters from a season ago. Among those returners is Maxime Allione, a defender from Toulon, France. Allione was named to the ASUN All-Freshman team a year ago as he anchored the Stetson defense in his first year. Among the newcomers are transfers Luis Lara Delgado and Connor Bates. Delgado is a forward from Pitt and Bates is a midfielder from Missouri State and they look to make an immediate impact for the Hatters offense in 2021.

Stetson men's soccer travels to Charleston, S.C. for its first of four straight road matches as the Hatters take on the College of Charleston Cougars on Sunday, Aug. 29 at Ralph Lundy Field at Patriots Point. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
