Hatters Fall 3-1 to USF in Home Opener

DeLand, Fla. -- After a tightly contested first two sets, South Florida pulled away in sets 3 and 4 to defeat Stetson 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 25-18, 25-15) Friday night at the Edmunds Center.
 
The setback spoiled the Hatters (4-6) home opener which also came on the first day of the Stetson Invitational. 
 
"As a team, we are confident in what we can do, but we are learning how to be emotionally consistent," Stetson head coach Yang Deng said.  "We have to learn that no one is giving away points.  You have to earn it.  We didn't play with that big sense of urgency, so we learned a big lesson today. I think we are a better team than we showed."
 
Elena Djokovic posted her third straight double-double with 16 kills and 15 digs.  Beatriz Vossen collected 11 kills and hit .360 while making her second start of the season.  Nyah Molina registered 38 assists and 24 digs.

Marta led South Florida with 18 kills.  The Bulls recorded 13 blocks as a team.
 
The Stetson Invitational continues Saturday as the Hatters host New Mexico State at 11 a.m. and Bethune-Cookman at 6 p.m.
