The Stetson men's cross country team will compete at the Coastal Carolina Chanticleer Challenge Friday evening at Hackler Golf Course in Conway, S.C.

The Hatters will run an 8K race beginning at 5:45 p.m.

Friday will mark the second event of the season for the Hatters and the team's first since the Mountain Dew Invitational on Sept. 11.

"It will be an interesting one for the fellas," Stetson head coach Bryan Harmon said.  "We are going to get a chance to see some different competition, which is nice. That's one thing that has kind of been a priority for the men over the past couple of years. We have gone to some races that gives us a chance to see some quality teams that we don't get to see very often.  Your Winthrops, your College of Charlestons, your Charleston Southerns, your UNCWs, obviously Coastal, the host school. It will be a good test for us because some of those programs are pretty good.  Some of them are similar to us where they are a cross country only program, so we want to see where we stack up."

Scheduled to compete for the Hatters will be Tristen Montalvo, Ashton Siwek, Jakob McConnell, Parker Hines, Clay Campbell, Frank Bero, Fynn Mengele, and Patrick Pitts.  Montalvo placed second in Gainesville in the first race of the season.

"Obviously, we are looking for Tristen to lead us," Harmon said. "Clay is eligible and ready to go, so we will see how he fits in to our mold. We have overcome some sickness that has been going through the team. We think that is behind us."

Stetson will be one of 14 teams competing, along with Campbell, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, Coker, College of Charleston, Elon, Louisburg, Missouri Valley, South Carolina State, Savannah State, UNCW, Wake Forest, and Winthrop.

"It is a chance for us to get ready for the two big ones coming up, which are Pre-Nationals and obviously the conference," Harmon said.  "We don't have a lot of chances to race with the men's squad, so the urgency is just a little more apparent than maybe with the women's team. We have to make sure we are progressing a little bit faster with what we want our final product to look like at the end of October.  It will be fun."

Results from the race will be available at CFPI Timing.
