Hatters set to face USF in intrastate match

Tampa, Fla. – The Stetson University men's soccer team travels to University of South Florida Friday evening as the Hatters face off against the Bulls in a non-conference match at Corbett Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Recap
Stetson's men's soccer team looks to get in the win column for the first time in 2021 as it comes off a two-match road trip to North Carolina in which the Hatters lost 3-2 in a competitive match to UNC Greensboro and then played Campbell University to a 2-2 draw in double overtime.

After going down 2-0 before halftime against the Spartans, the Hatters stormed back to knot the match at 2-2 but ultimately fell 3-2 after surrendering a late second half goal. In its match with the Camels, Stetson was down 2-1 with fifty seconds left in regulation when freshman Gabriel Toro scored on an assist from Alex Turner, and after two overtimes, the match remained tied at 2-2.

All-Time Series
The Hatters are 4-27-1 all-time against the South Florida Bulls, dating back to Oct. 16, 1965. The last time the non-conference foes faced off was back on Sept. 25, 2018 and it was USF that came out on top with a 3-1 win.

Scouting the Bulls
USF comes off a 3-0 shutout loss at No. 4 Clemson University on Monday, Sept. 6. The Bulls fell to 1-2-1 on the season. USF's Henrique Gallina leads the Bulls with two goals and five points on the year.

Hatters Notes
Junior Oliver Bryneus leads the Hatters with three goals scored, one assist and totaled seven points thus far. Sophomore defender Alvaro Gabancho leads the Hatters with 409 minutes played.

Looking Ahead
After its bout with USF, the Stetson men's soccer team returns home to the ATC as the Hatters get set for two home matches. Stetson faces NCAA Division II Embry-Riddle on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. and then opens conference play on Saturday, Sept. 18 against Liberty University at 7 p.m.
