Stetson men's soccer to honor eight on senior day against Georgia Southern

DELAND, Fla. – Stetson men's soccer will take on their final out of conference match Tuesday with Georgia Southern coming to the Athletic Training Center.

"It's a culmination of everything we started to build here," head coach Emmett Rutkowski said "When you take a program that went through a lot of instability, these are all the first group of guys that we brought in, a lot from when I was the assistant [coach] so it's really cool to see how they developed. One of the most important aspects for me is preparing these guys so they become the best person they can be, hopefully at some point the best father they can be,  the best husband they can be and help them to develop to be really positive members of society, not just good players at Stetson. I think this group proves it, excellent on the field and off it. They have been building this program through tough times, COVID spring when the results [on the field] weren't coming and I definitely think it'll be emotional Tuesday because it's been five years for some of them."

Eight players will be honored including Owen Jack, Tom DiLorenzo, Daniel Wintermeier, Gio Rodriguez, Alex Fuentes, Lewis Scattergood, Chase Hester and Thomas Anderson.

Stetson is fresh off the heels of an up-and-down week with a win over in-state rival South Florida, 3-2. before dropping a physical and heated match with ASUN foe Lipscomb, 2-1.

Georgia Southern has had a difficult year, playing a brutal Sun Belt schedule with a tough out of conference schedule on top of that. GS has faced three teams receiving votes, with a trip to Huntington, West Virginia against #4 Marshall on the schedule following Tuesday's Hatter match. The Eagles have faced 12th-ranked Charlotte in addition to Kentucky and Georgia State. The lone win was over ASUN member North Florida, 1-0, in Jacksonville, Florida. While Stetson have not faced them yet, the Eagles also dropped a game to Jacksonville, 3-0.

GS is led by a trio with two goals, Samuel Odame, Manuel Prieto and Alex Smith. Zachary Martin is the only other Eagle credited with a goal. Six GS players have notched an assist as Odame has one for a team-leading five points with five other squad players having the single tally for points. A pair of freshmen have shared time on the pitch with Dagoberto Romero taking 10
of the team's 12 starts.
