DELAND, Fla. -- Hatter men's soccer will leave Florida for the final time in the regular season to face Bellarmine in ASUN play. The game will be streamed on the ESPN+.
"According to the RPI they are top three in the conference," head coach
Emmett Rutkowski said "They are extremely difficult to break down, they have given up the third least amount of goals in the ASUN. They are tough in terms of organization and know their identity. It's a clear identity for the team and they have bought in to what they are doing, and they are riding on a four-game win streak. It's at their home stadium so this will be a tough match for us."
With Tuesday night's win this week, the Knights have won four straight, including a pair of conference matches over Florida Gulf Coast and Jacksonville. Nolan McGrath is the has tallied four goals on the season and is the only member of the team with more than one to his name although eight other Knights have found the net this season. BU has notched 10 assists on the 12 goals with Jack Fischer pacing the squad with three, while Brock Pope has added two.
The only other meeting between the pair occurred just under a year ago, October 23, 2021, with the Hatters taking the win in Louisville, 4-2. On the league table, it is a match between third place Stetson and fourth place Bellarmine, with one point separating the pair.
Although men's soccer was one of two Stetson programs to compete last weekend, it was not without interruptions.
"It was a really tough trip," Rutkowski said in regard to Hurricane Ian's disruptions. "The fact that we played one of our worst performances of the seasons, and it wasn't just because it happened, the hurricane, a 10-hour bus trip and three quarters of our team being sick, we had all these adverse moments but then we showed how resilient we are with still getting a draw. I think we are on the better end now; we have a lot of guys recovering, I thought training was excellent today, especially after the film on that game. I think we are in a really good place from it. What I am looking for is the reaction from it."
