Hatters Finish Off Sweep of FAMU

Schedule Change Announced for this Week

The Stetson Hatters got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Hatters put eight runs on the board to beat Florida A&M 8-3 on Sunday, completing a three-game sweep of the Rattlers.

Sophomore Cole Stallings (3-0) started on the mound and picked up the win for Stetson (10-5). The right-hander went 6.2 innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on five hits, allowing one walk and striking out three. Senior Rasesh Pandya closed out the game for Stetson, throwing two scoreless innings while allowing no hits, with one walk and one strikeout.

Freshman Andrew Estrella was one of the offensive stars for the Hatters. He tripled in the first and scored the initial run for Stetson and then doubled-home two runs in the fifth inning. Senior Nick DiPonzio had a big day as well. He reached base four times - three hits and a walk - scored four runs and had four stolen bases. Fellow senior Kyle Ball also continued to swing a hot bat, picking up three hits and one RBI.

Cam Hill, Juan Correa and Daniel Labrador chipped in with two hits each in the game.

Overall, the Hatters pounded out a season-high 17 hits, the most since last April 17 when they had 18 in a win over North Florida.

NEXT UP FOR THE HATTERS

With the weather forecast in central Florida calling for heavy rain in the middle of the week and, with mid-week opponent Maine already in the state for spring break, the Hatters and Black Bears have mutually decided to move up the timeframe on the two scheduled games this week. Instead of Tuesday night and Wednesday night, the teams will open their series on Monday afternoon with the first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. The second game is still scheduled for Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., but may get moved up to an earlier time if the forecast for Tuesday evening gets worse.

Following the mid-week series against Maine, the Hatters are scheduled to open ASUN Conference play at home next weekend when they host a three-game series against rival Florida Gulf Coast.
