DeLand, Fla. -- On the final day of the Stetson Sun-N-Sand Invitational, the Stetson University beach volleyball team dropped both duals as the Hatters fell 3-2 to No.4 Florida State and 5-0 to No. 2 USC Sunday morning at Cooper Beach.
The Hatters and the Seminoles opened play at 8 a.m. on the second and final day of the Stetson Sun-N-Sand Invitational as the No. 18-ranked Hatters and No.4-ranked Seminoles did not disappoint as four of the five matches went three sets.
On court 5, Audrey Gauthier and Klea Sirois fell behind 1-0 after a 21-16 loss but came back and knotted it at 1-all with a 21-19 win. The Seminoles came back in set three and took the match and a 1-0 edge in the dual. Then on court 4, Lauren Della and Colene Hamilton took their first set over Jordan Polo and Caitlin Moon but dropped their next two as FSU took a 2-0 advantage.
FSU sealed its win on court 3 as the Seminoles pair won in two sets (21-19, 21-12), but the Hatters finished strong as Stetson's 1s and 2s each played three exciting sets. Carolina Ferraris and Anete Namike defeated Morgan Chacon and Liz Waters Leiga in three sets as the Hatters pair scored eight times in a row for the statement win. On court 1, Kylie Neushaeferova and Shae Henson defeated Maddie Anderson and Brook Bauer in three sets as the pair fell in set one, 21-13, but won their next two.
In the final dual of the day, the Hatters fell 5-0 in straight sets to USC.
The Sandy Hats will be back in action on Friday, March 18 as the Hatters host the Stetson Challenge and welcome North Alabama, FGCU, North Florida, and Palm Beach Atlantic to Cooper Beach. First dual is set for 8 a.m. on Friday against UNA.
