Hatters split with FAU, Coastal Carolina on first day of Stetson Beach Bash

DeLand, Fla. -- The Stetson University beach volleyball squad went 1-1 in its two duals Saturday as the Hatters dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 10 Florida Atlantic in the morning but rebounded well in the afternoon with a 5-0 win over Coastal Carolina at Cooper Beach.

The Hatters (9-9) fell to the Owls for the second time in two weeks, but Stetson made FAU fight for the win. Pairs on courts 3, 4, and 5 all took their matches to three sets and Kylie Neuschaeferova and Shae Henson earned the Hatters their only point on court 1 with a two-set victory (23-21, 21-8).

In their second dual of the day, Stetson fared better against the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina as the Hatters were within one set on court 2 of winning in straight sets. Aleksandra Stadnik and Klea Sirois played one of the longest sets of the year on court 4 as the pair won 30-28. Sirois made an acrobatic save towards the back of the court and later Stadnik issued the final blow to take the set.

The Sandy Hats will be back in action on Sunday, March 27 with Senior Day, and the final day of the Stetson Beach Bash. The Hatters are set to face Georgia State at noon and have a Senior Day celebration later on, beginning at 3:45 p.m.
