Hatters stifled on Senior Day

DeLand, Fla. -- The Stetson University beach volleyball team dropped both of its matches on Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Stetson Beach Bash as the Hatters fell 3-2 to No. 13 Georgia State and 5-0 to Florida International at Cooper Beach.

The Hatters (9-11) dropped three in a row to the Panthers as GSU took the 4s and 5s in two sets, but Stetson's Colene Hamilton and Karin Zolnercikova played to three sets, but the pair was on the wrong side of a 20-18 battle in set three. The Hatters pairs in the 1s and 2s provided life for Stetson as Anete Namike and Carolina Ferraris took their match in three sets on court 2. Then on court 1, after losing the first set, Shae Henson and Kylie Neuschaeferova also won in three sets.

In the Hatters second dual of the day, FIU topped Stetson 5-0 as the Hatters and Panthers went three sets on only court 2. It was the third time this season the Hatters lost 5-0 to an opponent.

Stetson's beach volleyball squad looks ahead to April as the Hatters hit the road for the remainder of the season. Stetson begins its string of road contests in Columbia, S.C. at the Carolina Challenge at Wheeler Beach on Friday, April 1 against UAB for its first opponent.
