Tennis squads hit the road this weekend for ASUN matches

The teams are at Lipscomb, Friday and Jacksonville State, Sunday

DELAND, Fla. - After hosting their first three league matches, both the Stetson University men's and women's tennis teams head out on the road this weekend to face their next ASUN opponents. The Hatters are in Nashville, Tennessee, on Friday to battle with Lipscomb and then take on Jacksonville State in Jacksonville, Alabama, on Sunday.

The women's team kicks things off on Friday against the Bison at 11 am EST, with the men following at 3 pm. Action on Sunday against the Gamecocks starts again at 11 am with the women, while the men start at 2 pm.

WOMEN'S CAPSULES
Stetson (14-2, 2-1 ASUN)
- The Hatters enter the weekend after splitting last weekend, dropping a tough 4-3 match to #74 Florida Gulf Coast and earning a 5-2 comeback win against Kennesaw State.
- Individually, four Hatters have already reached the 10-win plateau led by Noa Cohen, who is a perfect 14-0 this season with 6-0 marks at both No. 4 and No. 5. Alanna DiFrancesco is 14-1 overall, 6-1 at No. 4, followed by Cheri Darley, who is 13-1, including an 8-0 record at No. 3. Anais Gabriel improved to 10-3 last weekend (5-2 at No. 2) and Nadejda Maslova (9-3 at No. 1) has a chance to get to the 10-win mark this weekend.
- Two doubles pairs have a chance to get to 10 wins this weekend as well, Darley/Maslova (9-4 at No. 2) and Cohen/Gabriel (9-1 at No. 3). The No. 1 pairing of DiFrancesco/Elodie Foster is 7-7.

Lipscomb (6-8, 2-2 ASUN)
- The Bison split their ASUN matches last weekend, getting a 4-3 win over Bellarmine, but falling to Liberty, 6-1 . They also have a league win over North Alabama (4-3).
- Their top two players are at flights 1 and 2 - Sasha Dobranos (7-6 at No. 1) and Kate Popova (8-5 at No. 2), while the team is a combined 11-32 at flights 3, 4 and 5 this season. Eleanor Chapman has won five straight at No. 6.
- The Bison have also struggled in doubles, going a combined 10-26 at all three flights. Popova/Anja Trbeznik are 3-6 at No. 1 and Dobranos/Maddox Bandy own the teams only non-losing record of 3-3 at No. 2

Jacksonville State (6-9, 2-2 ASUN)
- Identical to the Bison, the Gamecocks also split their ASUN matches last weekend, scoring a 4-2 win over Bellarmine, but dropping a 6-1 decision to Liberty.
- Overall flight 2 and 3 have seen the best wins for the Gamecocks, with Anna Syrova owning a 7-2 mark at No. 2 and Dariana Prato is 6-3 at No. 3. Only Romane Mosse (5-4 at No. 1) and Ella Tuomela (5-4 at No. 4) have winning records at any other flights (at least four matches).
- In doubles, not a single pairing owns a winning record and the most for any team is 3 at No. 2 - Prato/Tuomela (3-7) and at No. 3 - Syrova/Balsen Kaya (3-5). 

MEN'S CAPSULES
Stetson (7-8, 0-3 ASUN)
- The Hatters will look to end its three-match slide in league play, which includes a pair of 4-3 losses to North Florida and Florida Gulf Coast, this weekend.
- Three Hatters have five wins at respective flights - Diogo Marques (5-7, 1), Tim Gennes (5-1, 5) and Sami Ozzor (5-1, 6), with Tristan Dumas (No. 2) and Ervin Eminefendic (No. 3) are both 3-3 at their flight.
- The doubles team of Eminefendic/Sven Thiergard have thrived at the No. 2 spot, with a 6-2 record, but Dumas/Alexandre Hillhouse (3-2) at No. 3 are the only other team with a winning record (minimum four matches).

Lipscomb (4-9, 1-2 ASUN)
- The Bison come into the weekend with a two-match losing streak - a pair of 5-2 losses to Bellarmine and #71 Liberty.
- Individually, only Alex Mesquida (7-5) has an overall winning record (minimum four matches) and is 4-1 at flight 5. Maksim Bogdanovich (6-7 at No. 1) and Gonzalo Garcia-Nieto (4-5 at No. 4) are the only other players with at least four wins at a single flight, with Jake Penny posting a 3-0 mark at No. 6.
- Lipscomb's doubles teams have shown success with Garcia-Nieto/Pedro Uribe owning a 5-3 record at No. 1 (3-0 in league play), and whoever pairs with Sam Fischer at No. 2. With Mesquida, he is 4-1, while pairing with Penny, they are 3-3.

Jacksonville State (7-5, 2-1 ASUN)
- The Gamecocks split their ASUN matches last weekend, getting a 4-1 win over Bellarmine, but falling to #71 Liberty, 5-2.
- Holding the No. 1 spot is Joaquin Vallejo, who is 4-7 at the spot, while Vincente Arbelaez (5-2 at No. 4) and Jordi Blanchar (5-1 at No. 6) are the only other players that have solidified a flight. Thomas Norwood is 4-1 at No. 2, 3-1 at No. 3; Maj Tomac is 3-1 at No. 2 and no other player has more than two wins at a single flight.
- Like Lipscomb, the Gamecocks have solid doubles teams with Vallejo/Aljaz Kaplja posting a 4-4 record at No. 1, Tomac/Vanja Dobrnjac owning a 4-2 mark at No. 2 and Norwood/Alex Vishnevskiy 4-3 overall (2-0 at No. 2, 2-3 at No. 3).
