Hatters fall to UAB, bounce back against No. 14 South Carolina

Columbia, S.C. -- The Stetson University beach volleyball squad split their matches against UAB and South Carolina Friday afternoon as the Hatters fell 3-2 to the Blazers, but bounced back against the 14th-ranked Gamecocks at Wheeler Beach.

The Hatters (10-12) played a back-and-forth dual against UAB as Colene Hamilton and Karin Zolnercikova got the Hatters on the board and knotted the score at 1-1 after a two-set win on court 4. Carolina Ferraris and Anete Namike gave Stetson the lead after their two-set win on court 2, but the Blazers did not back down as UAB won on court 1, making court 3 the deciding match. Lauren Della and Gabriella Bramante fought hard in their first set, but were on the wrong side of a 24-22 defeat before dropping set two 21-19.

In their second dual of the afternoon, the Hatters fell behind 1-0 after a loss on court 4 but quickly knotted the score at 1-1 after Audrey Gauthier and Noelle Weintraub won a hard-fought three-set match on court 5. The Hatters and Gamecocks then split courts 1 and 3, leaving court 2 the dual's decider. Anete Namike and Carolina Ferraris took care of the Gamecock's Jordan Smith and Lauren Wilcock in two sets to seal the win for the Hatters.

The Stetson beach volleyball squad will be back in action at the Carolina Challenge on Saturday, April 2 at 9 a.m. against Jacksonville.
