DELAND, Fla. - The Stetson University tennis teams are on the road this weekend to play their final ASUN league matches before next week's ASUN Championships. The women's team has already clinched a spot in the upcoming tournament and are currently tied for first, and this weekend's matches will certainly go a far way to determine seeding. The men's team currently sits in the fifth spot in the standings and with one win in its final two matches will secure its own spot.
The women's team kicks things off on Thursday versus Bellarmine at 10 am, with the men following at 2 pm. The teams complete the regular season at Liberty on Saturday, with the women starting at 11 am and the men at 3 pm.
WOMEN'S CAPSULES
Stetson (18-2, 6-1 ASUN)
- In the Hatters' final home match of 2022, they shut out North Alabama, 7-0, to tie the school record for wins in a season with 18 and set the school record for home wins in a season with 13.
- Five Hatters have won at least 11 matches this season and include
Noa Cohen (18-0),
Alanna DiFrancesco (18-1),
Cheri Darley (17-1),
Anais Gabriel (12-4) and
Nadejda Maslova (11-6).
- Maslova and Darley lead Stetson in doubles wins with 12, while Cohen and Gabriel are 11-1 and DiFrancesco and
Elodie Foster are 10-7.
Bellarmine (1-20, 0-7 ASUN)
- The Knights have lost nine in a row and all seven in conference including last week's 7-0 defeat to Liberty.
- Ekaterina Tikhonko dropped two hard-fought sets to fellow true freshman Maria Juliana Parra Romero, 7-5, 6-3. Tikhonko and Romero are both in the top 10 in the conference in no. 1 singles wins this season.
-Â In no. 3 singles, Ashley Jonathan defeated Eloise Saraty 7-6 in the first set, but lost set two 7-6 and the tiebreaker 10-4. Jonathan needs two wins to match Maggie Walroth's record of 147 total victories in a career.
Liberty (17-5, 6-1 ASUN)
- Liberty is 8-0 in home matches this season and has 17 victories, fourth most in a single season in program history. The school record is 19 wins, held by the 2015 squad
- Sophomore Esther Lovato (25-4 overall, 16-2 spring) and freshman Maria Juliana Parra Romero (25-4 overall, 14-2 spring) pace Liberty in singles victories this season. Lovato and Parra Romero are the first duo in school history to win 25 or more matches each in a season.
- The Lady Flames have captured the doubles point in nine straight matches, a streak which started on March 13.Â
MEN'S CAPSULES
Stetson (10-8, 3-3Â ASUN)
- After losing their first three league matches, the Hatters have won three straight to get back in the hunt for a spot in the ASUN Championship.

Tim Gennes (flight 5) and
Sami Ozzor (flight 6) have helped Stetson during its winning streak, as they are unbeaten in singles during the stretch and are both 5-1 in league matches. No. 1 singles
Diogo Marques has won two in a row and is the only other Stetson player with three victories in conference matches (3-2).
- Marques has paired with
Clement Hamel and have won four straight league matches, including two at flight 1. Gennes and
Josh Laka have won three in a row at flight 3, which has helped the Hatters to the team win streak.
Bellarmine (5-13, 1-5 ASUN)
- The Knights enter on a four-match losing streak and fell to Liberty last week by a final score of 6-1.
-.Freshman Jack Batchelor impressed at No. 2 singles with a 7-5, 6-4 victory against Rafael Marques Da Silva. Batchelor leads the Knights in total singles wins this year (including the fall with 16), while Cole Groetsch has the most singles wins during the spring season (8).
- The No. 1 doubles team of Groetsch and Batchelor were leading their match 4-3 but went unfinished against the Flames. The doubles duo of Paul Reynolds and Xavier Ecarma has a team-best five wins in 2022.
Liberty (8-10, 4-2 ASUN)
- No. 72 Liberty has been nationally ranked eight times this season. The Flames reached as high as the No. 57 spot (Feb. 23). Over the past two years, Liberty has been nationally ranked 15 times. The Flames' best mark was No. 39, achieved on May 26, 2021.
- In singles, Liberty has been led by Christiaan Worst (12-5) and Wilson (10-5), this spring. Worst has won six straight matches. The Pretoria, South Africa native holds a 3-0 record in the No. 3 position and 9-5 mark in the No. 4 slot. Wilson sports a 10-5 mark and earned ASUN Player of the Week honors on March 8, his sixth career ASUN Player of the Week award.
