Hatters split in final regular season tournament

Miami, Fla. -- The Stetson University beach volleyball squad spilt its final two regular season duals of the year, falling to FIU 3-1, but rebounded against Tulane, defeating the Green Wave 5-0 Saturday afternoon at the FIU Beach Bash Invitational.

In their first match of the day, the Hatters (16-16) took two matches against No. 15 FIU as Karin Zolnercikova and Noelle Weintraub came away with a two-set victory on court 4. Then on court 3, Lauren Della and Gabriella Bramante topped their Panthers opponents as the pair also won in two sets, but the Hatters fell to FIU for the second time this season.

In their second dual of the day, Stetson shutout Tulane 5-0 in regular competition as well as taking the extra match. The Hatters played Tulane to three, three-set matches as the Hatters prevailed in all three. On courts 2 and 4, Audrey Gauthier and Colene Hamilton and Anete Namike and Carolina Ferraris dropped their first sets but came back and took the next two to seal the win for the Hatters.

Stetson finished the regular season with a 16-16 record and maintained a spot in the AVCA Collegiate Beach Volleyball poll for eight straight weeks this season, including the preseason rankings.
