Hatters land the top seed for the 2022 ASUN Championship

Huntsville, Ala. -- The 2022 Stetson University beach volleyball squad secured the No.1 overall seed for the ASUN Conference championship, the league office announced Sunday afternoon. Pool play begins on Friday, April 22 as the Hatters are set to square off against No. 4 seed UNC Wilmington at 9:30 a.m. at the John Hunt Sand Volleyball Complex. 
 
The 19th-ranked Hatters highlight the 12-team field as Stetson finished the regular season with the highest ranking of any ASUN team. The 20th-ranked FGCU Eagles earned the second seed while reigning ASUN champion North Florida is the third seed. ASUN newcomers UNC Wilmington and College of Charleston follow the Ospreys at the fourth and fifth seeds, respectively, with North Alabama as the sixth seed to round out the top-six teams. Central Arkansas and Mercer are the seven and eight seeds followed by Stephen F. Austin, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State and Eastern Kentucky. 
 
Stetson is the 2021 ASUN Championship Runner-Up and secured this year's No. 1 seed after finishing with the highest ranking of any league team in the AVCA Beach Volleyball Coaches Association poll. The Hatters were ranked No. 19 when seeding was announced, but are now 18th in the latest AVCA poll. Stetson was ranked as high as 16 in the first poll of the season. 
 
The Hatters defeated No. 18 South Carolina on two separate occasions this season as well as a victory against No. 20 FGCU back on Feb. 26. Stetson looks for its sixth ASUN crown as the 2022 tournament marks the 11th season in a row that the Hatters make an appearance in the conference championship.
 
All matches are scheduled to stream live on ESPN+ beginning on Friday, April 22 at 9:30 a.m. as the top-seeded Hatters take on No. 4-seeded UNCW and No. 3 UNF squares off against No. 2 FGCU. 
 
This year, the ASUN is offering a complementary VIP experience to fans. VIP tickets are available for $150 and include access to shaded, premium seating, one meal per day, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages for the duration of the championship. The first 50 fans to purchase a ticket also receive a souvenir beach towel. General admission to the event is free of charge with the ASUN offering fans an opportunity to enhance their experience.
