Hatters cruise to a 2-0 start at the 2022 ASUN Championship

Huntsville, Ala. -- The Stetson University beach volleyball squad took both of its matches Friday afternoon on the first day of Pool Play in the 2022 ASUN Championship tournament as the Hatters topped No. 4-seeded UNC Wilmington 5-0 and then shut out No. 12-seeded Eastern Kentucky 5-0.

The Hatters (18-16) led off the day with a 5-0 shutout of No. 4 seed UNC Wilmington as Noelle Weintraub and Karin Zolnercikova earned Stetson its first win of the day in two sets on court 5. On court 4, Audrey Gauthier and Colene Hamilton followed suit with a 2-0 win on court 4, taking set two in a hard-fought 23-21 win. With the Hatters up 2-0, Lauren Della and Gabriella Bramante sealed the win for Stetson as the pair cruised to a 2-0 win taking both sets 21-13. All-conference First-Team pairs of Shae Henson and Kylie Neuschaeferova and Carolina Ferraris and Anete Namike each earned wins on courts 1 and 2, respectively.

In Stetson's second dual of the afternoon, the Hatters once again came away victorious and this time in dominating fashion. Weintraub and Zolnercikova held their opponents to a combined 11 points in two sets while Gauthier and Hamilton let up a combined 18 in their match on court 4. On court 3, Della and Bramante also let up just 11 combined points.

Stetson's win over the Colonels was the Hatters third in a row, one win shy of tying their season record of four in row.

The Sandy Hats will be right back at it on Saturday, April 23 at 11 a.m. EST as Stetson takes on No. 9-seeded Stephen F. Austin and then No. 8-seeded Mercer University at 2 p.m. EST.
