Hatters are 2022 ASUN Champions!!

The Hatters claim their sixth ASUN crown with the 3-0 win over FGCU

Huntsville, Ala. -- The 2022 ASUN Conference beach volleyball championship trophy returns to DeLand for the first time since 2019. The 2022 Sandy Hats captured the program's sixth ASUN Championship crown Monday afternoon as the Hatters defeated No. 2 seeded FGCU 3-0 in straight sets at the John Hunt Sand Volleyball Complex.

The Hatters (23-16) got on the board right away as Noelle Weintraub and Karin Zolnercikova won in straight sets 21-17 in both sets on court 5 as the pair dominated their court the entire weekend. Audrey Gauthier and Colene Hamilton followed with a 2-0 win on court 4, giving the Hatters a commanding 2-0 lead.

ASUN first-team pair of Anete Namike and Carolina Ferraris took down their FGCU foes in two sets on court 2 with a 21-16 score in the first set before taking the second set 21-10 and sending the rest of their Hatters teammates into a craze.

Weintraub and Zolnercikova earned all-tournament honors as the pair went 14-1 over their 15 sets on the weekend. Namike and Ferraris added to their 2022 resumes as the pair earned the 2022 ASUN Championship Pair of the Year honors as they clinched the sixth ASUN title in program history.

This year's tournament appearance for the Hatters marked the program's 10th in a row as Stetson has played in every title match in league history. With the win, the Hatters became the first ASUN team and second team ever, to receive an automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Championship tournament.

Their win over FGCU marked the first time an ASUN team won the league championship by the final score of 3-0. The Hatters finished the weekend with a 30-1 record over their 32 combined matches.

Stetson now waits for the 2022 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship Selection Show which airs Saturday, April 30 at 9 p.m. on NCAA.com, to find out who the Hatters face in the first round of the tournament.
