Stetson men's basketball coach
Donnie Jones announced today the addition of four student-athletes to the Hatters roster for the 2022-23 season.
Â
The four newest Hatters are guard Jalen Blackmon, a transfer from Grand Canyon University; guard Alec Oglesby, a transfer from UNC Wilmington; small forward Sam Peek, a graduate transfer from Wesleyan University; and Luke Brown, a guard who is returning to Stetson after spending the 2021-22 season at Ball State.
Â
"I am excited to welcome these four young men to Stetson," Jones said. "They all bring experience and skill sets that fit our style of play and culture."
Â
Luke Brown
Brown stands out among the incoming players after he originally signed with the Hatters out of Blackford High in Hartford City, Ind. He spent last summer working out with the Hatters before making the last-minute decision to enroll at Ball State University.
Â
Brown, who ranks as the No. 4 all-time leading scorer in Indiana high school basketball history with 3,011 points, saw action in 18 games for the Cardinals this past season, averaging 12.4 minutes per game while scoring 3.3 points per game. His best outing was a 10-point performance at Northern Illinois.
Â
Jalen Blackmon
Blackmon (6-3, 180) is also an Indiana native, from Marion, and was a four-star recruit who knows Brown well from times when they played together in all-star events. He averaged 29.8 points per game in high school.
Â
Blackmon played for his father, James Sr., at Marion High. His dad was a McDonald's All-American himself and played collegiately at the University of Kentucky before being selected by the then New Jersey Nets in the NBA Draft. He played professionally for nine years.
Â
Blackmon also has two brothers, James Jr. and Vijay, who both played at Indiana. James Jr. is currently playing professionally in Turkey. Jalen played in 23 games last season at Grand Canyon, averaging 8.7 minutes and 2.7 points
per game.
Â
Alec Oglesby
Oglesby (6-5, 187) is a native of Gainesville where he attended The Rock School before enrolling at Cleveland State for his freshman season. He played in 27 games for the Vikings in 2020-21, averaging 4.3 points in 16 minutes of playing time per game. His best scoring performance came against Northern Kentucky when he scored 17 points and he had back-to-back games against Detroit Mercy and Purdue Fort Wayne when he scored 15 and 13 points.
Â
He transferred from Cleveland State to UNC Wilmington last year, but played in just six games during the first semester for the Seahawks, averaging just under 12 minutes per game while scoring 3.7 points.
Â
Sam Peek
Peek (6-7, 195) is a native of Poughkeepsie, NY, who stayed home to play for Wesleyan University, earning the D3Hoops.com Region 1 Player of the Year award for the 2021-22 season. With two years of eligibility remaining, he has averaged 13.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game in his career, having started 47 of 61 games. Wesleyan did not play during the 2020-21 season.
Â
That group is also joined by guard
Cyncier Harrison (5-10, 150), who came to Stetson this past January from Sunrise Christian Academy, a prep school in Charlotte, NC, after completing his high school career at Providence Day School.
