Hatters announce third newcomer for next season

Lucas Olivier will join the Stetson squad after a freshman season at Middle Tennessee

DELAND, Fla. – Stetson University men's tennis coach Christophe Noblet continues to prepare for the upcoming 2022-23 season and has announced a third recruit in Lucas Olivier who will be joining the Hatters squad this fall.

Olivier, a native of Marseille, France, comes to Stetson from Middle Tennessee, where he played one season for the Blue Raiders, who enjoyed a historic season before falling to NC State, 4-3, in the NCAA Championship Second Round.

The team ended the year as champions of Conference USA and finished with the most wins (28-5) in program history. In the final ITA rankings, Middle Tennessee was No. 19 but reached as high as No. 15 during the season.

During the spring season, Olivier was 5-0 in singles matches, which included wins against Bellarmine at flight 5 and North Alabama at No. 6. He also won his only doubles match, paired with Chris Edge, at flight 2 against Bellarmine. Overall, including the fall season, Olivier was 8-6 in singles and 5-7 in doubles.

"Lucas is a tremendous player who is looking to contribute more," Noblet said. "Middle Tennessee was top 20 this season and Lucas learned a lot from being in that environment. He is looking forward to applying those lessons with us this coming fall and helping the team accomplish his lofty goals."

Stetson, which made the ASUN Championship postseason tournament, will be looking to replace six Hatters who depart due to graduation. However, the stable isn't barren as three Hatters returning were named to the ASUN's All-Freshman Team, including Freshman of the Year Tristan Dumas.

Olivier will join two other newcomers, Juan Jose Rodriguez and Bendix Schroeder, on campus this fall, recruits earlier announced by Noblet.
