Stetson University men's golf coach
Danny Forshey fortified the Hatters' 2022-23 roster with the addition of junior transfer Javier Calles, a transfer from Nova Southeastern University.
A native of Madrid, Spain, Calles played in 11 tournaments the past season for the Sharks, posting a 71.48 scoring average with 13 of his 33 rounds coming in under par. He posted nine top 10 finishes during the season including a pair of medalist performances.
"Javier is an elite player with a championship mentality," Forshey said. "He will fit in perfectly with what we are looking to accomplish here at Stetson. We are very excited to have him join our program this fall."
Calles' best single-round performance of this past year came in October at the McDonough Cup when he posted a seven-under par opening round of 65 on his way to an eight-under par 208 to win his second straight event.
Calles was selected as a PING All-South Region player and earned first team All-Sunshine Conference honors. He tied for eighth in the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament and finished the year ranked 23
rd in the nation.
During the Covid-shortened 2020-21 season, Calles played in seven events and was named the Sunshine Conference Freshman of the Year after posting a 72.67 scoring average in seven events, covering 21 rounds of competition. He opened his collegiate career with three consecutive rounds of three-under par 69 to finish third at the Saint Leo Invitational.
Calles will have two years of eligibility at Stetson.
