MIAMI, Fla. – Stetson senior Simon Engman carded a 3-under-par 69 to finish one stroke off the individual lead Monday during the opening round of The Bryson Invitational at the Blue Monster Course at Trump National Doral.

The Hatters posted a team score of 7-over par to finish the day tied with Furman for seventh place in the 12-team field. Stetson sits six strokes behind first-round leader College of Charleston, which opened with a 1-over-par team score. Missouri and Michigan are tied for second at 3-over par.

Engman leads the Hatters individually, while two-time ASUN Golfer of the Week Uy Doan and junior Jack Northgraves are tied for 21st at 2-over par. Sophomore Thanattasorn Supinraj is tied for 49th at 6-over, and senior Gabriel Lindahl stands 60th at 10-over par.

A two-time All-ASUN selection from Gothenburg, Sweden, Engman opened his round with a birdie on the par-5 first hole. After recording two bogeys on the front nine, he returned to even par with a birdie on the par-5 eighth. Engman continued his strong play on the back nine, carding four birdies and one bogey to finish at 3-under par. His six birdies were the second-most among the golfers in the field.

The 54-hole tournament continues Tuesday, with the 63-player field returning to the par-72, 7,590-yard course for the second round. Stetson is scheduled to tee off at 7:40 a.m. from the 10th tee, paired with golfers from Coastal Carolina and Furman.
