Men’s Golf Set for The Bryson Invitational at Doral

DeLAND, Fla. -- The Stetson University men's golf team concludes its fall season next week when it travels to Miami for The Bryson Invitational Monday through Wednesday at the famed "Blue Monster" championship golf course at Trump National Doral Golf Club.

In addition to Stetson, the 12-team tournament field will include golf programs from host College of Charleston, Coastal Carolina, Florida Gulf Coast, Furman, Grand Canyon, Michigan, Missouri, Oregon State, Seton Hall, Troy and Washington State.

The 54-hole tournament will be played over three days, with each team completing one 18-hole round each day. Each team will compete with five golfers, with the four lowest scores counting toward the team total in each round

The Hatters will feature the same lineup that finished in a tie for third place at last week's West Bay Collegiate Invitational - Uy Doan, Simon Engman, Gabriel Lindahl, Jack Northgraves and Thanattasorn Supinraj.

The Bryson Invitational will be contested at the Blue Monster Course at Doral, one of the more recognizable venues in championship golf. The par-72 layout is known for its demanding combination of length, strategically placed bunkers, undulating greens and numerous water hazards. Originally designed by Dick Wilson and extensively renovated by Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner in 2014, the course has hosted decades of professional golf, including more than 50 consecutive years of PGA TOUR events. The Blue Monster has a challenging finishing stretch, highlighted by the water-lined 18th hole.

The annual tournament is hosted by the Matt Bryson Foundation, which is guided by a mission to positively invest in the lives of collegiate student-athletes competing in the sport of golf. The focus of the foundation is to be a sound resource for the development and mentorship of collegiate golfers.

Vanderbilt University claimed last year's team title at The Bryson invitational, finishing at 30-under par at Daniel Island Club in South Carolina. The Commodores won the tournament by seven strokes ahead of runners-up Wake Forest and Duke. VU's Ryan Downes claimed medalist honors at 13-under par, moving up seven places on the final day with an 8-under par 64.

Following the conclusion of The Bryson Invitational, Stetson will have time off from competition until the team's spring season opens at the Compadres Collegiate  on Feb. 7-9 at Iberostar Playa Paraíso Golf Club in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The Hatters will compete in five regular season tournaments leading into the annual ASUN Conference Championship, scheduled for April 20-22 at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga.  Stetson will host two tournaments during the spring, the Sam Ryder Intercollegiate in March and the Sandy Edinger Collegiate in April - both at LPGA International in Daytona Beach.
