Hatter men's soccer will welcome Central Arkansas to the Athletic Training Center Saturday night at 7 p.m., for the third ASUN Conference match of the season. The game will be streamed on the Hattervision Youtube channel.
"We have to do a better job of securing the ball, taking care of the ball," head coach
Emmett Rutkowski said "But coming from a 2-0 win at a really difficult UNF team, the group did really well. We executed on the few chances we had then just deflated the game really well. When we watched the film, once we had our lead we were really confident in defending, I thought we did a good job and managed it pretty well in the last 15-20 minutes. We defended crosses and balls in our own box well. Now, I think it's how do we manage a team like UCA that's probably played one of the toughest schedules in the ASUN and they've had some really good results against good teams."
The Bears enter the match with an 3-3-1 record overall and a perfect conference record matching Stetson's perfect mark, both teams at two wins from two matches. UCA's senior defender Bradyn Knutson was named the ASUN defensive player of the week following the Bears win over Bellarmine on Saturday night. This match will mark the second time in the series the teams have met with the Hatters taking a 2-1 victory last season, October 9, in Conway, Arkansas. Most recently, the Bears and Memphis Tigers played in a 10-goal match seeing UCA fall 6-4 Tuesday night.
The Hatters have now stretched their unbeaten run to five games with three wins and a California road trip that saw out two draws. Junior midfielder
Gio Rodriguez was named ASUN player of the week following a two-goal performance in Jacksonville, Florida, against North Florida. Redshirt junior goalkeeper
Owen Jack added three more saves to his conference-leading total, now at 25, in his third clean sheet of the season, second in ASUN play.
