Hatters battles but falls in ASUN opener at Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, FL --The Stetson volleyball team could not overcome a dynamic Dolphins offense Friday on the road falling to Jacksonville in three sets (23-25, 23-25, 20-25).

JACKSONVILLE, Fl. – The Stetson volleyball team pushed Jacksonville but could not get over the top, falling in three sets at the Swisher Gymnasium on Friday night.

The loss dropped Stetson's record to 9-4 overall and 0-1 in ASUN action. JU bumped up to 7-6 with a 1-0 mark in conference play.

The Hatters were led by a pair of double-doubles from senior outside hitter Elena Djokovic, 10 kills and 10 digs, while sophomore setter Nyah Molina registered 30 assists with 13 digs on the day.
Junior outside hitter Anabelle Standish also added eight kills to help the attack. Freshman middle blocker Sophia Groom notched four blocks.

Game Notes

» Stetson had four players in double figures in digs.
» Madilyn Jerald had a team-high one ace in the loss, the only Stetson ace of the match.
» Djokovic registered a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs
» Stetson got a team-high 13 digs from Nyah Molina.
» Stetson attackers were helped by a team-high 30 assists from Nyah Molina.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Hatters rallied from a seven-point 24-17 hole, but Jacksonville held on to win the first set 25-23.

SET 2 | Stetson then lost the second set 25-23 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Hatters lost set two despite a strong showing on the attacking side. Stetson registered a .366 attack
percentage with 17 kills in the set loss.

SET 3 | Stetson couldn't prolong the match and lost in set number three. The Hatters lost the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before losing the set 25-20.

Stetson Volleyball continues the ASUN Conference road trip in the Swisher Gymnasium, facing North Florida in JU's gym [North Florida's gym is unavailable]. Saturday's match will start at 8 p.m.
