DELAND, Fla. – Stetson women's soccer will hold its final pair of home non-conference matches with The Citadel and Coastal Carolina coming to the ATC Thursday and Sunday, respectively.
Â
"Very excited about this upcoming weekend," head coach
Chris Bergmann said. "We have been creating lots of momentum this week as we get ready for the matches. We have been refining key movements in our attack which will help open up the game for us. The key is for us to be together and strive for the goals we have set out for ourselves. We are in a great place and I'm really looking forward to seeing the ladies play."
The Hatters will take on The Citadel Thurday evening with kickoff scheduled for 7p.m., and the seniors will be honored prior to the Sunday match against Coastal Carolina. The senior day match is scheduled for 6 p.m. Both matches will take place at the Athletic Training Center.
Â
The Citadel enters Thursday's match posting a 3-2 record on a two-game win streak. The Bulldogs posted wins over USC-upstate, 3-0, and Presbyterian College, 4-2, last weekend. With the performance, Citadel goalkeeper Grace Laws was named Southern Conference defensive player of the week. Stetson has played The Citadel twice, both in Charleston, South Carolina, splitting the matches with one win and one loss. The most recent match between the squads resulted in a 1-0 Hatter victory on September 5, 2021.
Â
Coastal Carolina will enter the weekend winless officially, 0-3-2 overall record, but taking a pair of wins in exhibitions. Prior to facing the Hatters on Sunday, Coastal will take on Charlotte on Thursday. The Chants started the season against ASUN conference member Jacksonville with that match ending in a 2-2 draw. This past week, CCU faced Charleston Southern, another 2-2 draw, and lost to Campbell 2-1. The Hatters have faced Coastal twice before with both games taking place in Jacksonville, Florida, with the most recent result being a 1-1 draw that took place on September 7, 2007.
