Nashville, TN – The Stetson men's and women's cross country team each earned 8
th place at the ASUN Championship.
The ladies were up first on a cool morning in Nashville,
Juliet Tonkin and
Blair Durda started out strong and never looked back. Tonkin led the Hatters with a 17:35.18 5K, which earned her a 12
th place finish, while Durda was not far behind crossing the line with a 17:44.45.
Up next were a trio of Hatters to cross the finish line as
Annabelle Brink would finish with a 19:43.40.
Madison Niederriter was right behind Brink running a 19:52.64 and
Taylor Cushenberry finished with a time of 20.21.12.
Madeleine Empric would battle through pain much of the race and still was able to finish for the Hatters at 26:07.00.
The 12
th place finish earned Tonkin a spot on the ASUN All Conference second team. The 19
th place finish by Durda was enough to claim ASUN All Conference third team honors.
Overall, the Hatters would find themselves in eighth place as a team edging out North Alabama, Austin Pear, FGCU and Jacksonville.
Coaches Thoughts on the Women's Race:
The men would race at 10:00 AM and the temperature would rise considerably, making the already difficult course even tougher.
Collin Brooks would be the first Hatter to finish with a time of 25:57.54 good for 41st followed by Eduardo Diaz who crossed the line at 26:21.65 and then Conrad Voight 26:28.25.
Seth Singer would be up next with a 26:38.11 finish,
Robbie Champa crossed the line next with a 26:49.78.
Luke Danison started the first 2480m well and ended with a 26:57.20.
Michael Petrovic and
Patrick Pitts would have a strong last leg of the race to better their final position as they would run 27:09.50 and 27:22.20. All the Hatters would finish in the top 80 out of 107 runners total in the 8K men's race.
The men would finish in eight as a team in front of North Alabama, Jacksonville and Austin Peay.

Next up for the Hatters are the NCAA Regionals in Gainesville, Florida on November 10
th.
