DeLand, Fla. - The Stetson University beach volleyball team secured a 3-2 over FGCU and UNF in a hard fought battle, Saturday at the Cooper Beach Volleyball Courts. The Hatters, coming off a pair of wins on Friday, came ready to fight. Stetson (4-0), are undefeated so far in their 2023 season as they've successfully defeated four teams at home.
Stetson's Gathright and Stadnik successfully secured a pair of victories in their first dual against the Eagles of FGCU on court 4. Sirois and Stadnik also bagged a win on court 5- a great start to the day for the Hatters. Both courts 1 and 2 required a third set to be played. Henson and Zolnercikova came up short in the first set to the Osprey's but were able to win the second and third sets by two and three points. Namike and Ferris, an incredible pair, came out on top in the first set but fell short in the second. They rebounded in the third, securing a victory. Gauthier and Bramante won both of their duals on court 3.
In the afternoon, the Hatters battled the Osprey's of North Florida. Three out of five duals went into the third set. Sirosis and Weintraub led off the first dual with a 2-0 win on court 4 in the third set. The Hatter pair took the first set while the Osprey's took the second, and the Hatters took the third by three points. Warren and Della managed to claim the first set by two- an intense battle that ended 26-24. UNF took the second and third sets, giving them their first points of the day. Clement and Ferraris bagged a pair of wins on court 2 for the Hatters, but the day was far from over.
Espy and Murray of UNF won both matches on court 4, tying the score at two. Clement and Ferraris, in the No. 1 position for the Hatters, came up big in the final match of the day to defeat the Osprey's. Stetson took the first set while UNF took the second, and the third set was a sight to see. Fans surrounded the sand as the pressure was on to get to 15, and both teams were neck a neck. The unstoppable pair defeated the Osprey's 15-11, closing out the weekend with a 3-2 final score.
The Hatters will travel to Clearwater, Florida for a neutral sight game on March 3 against Georgia State at 12:00pm.
