Hatters Split a Pair with Long Beach State, Utah

Pairs 1 and 2 go undefeated on the day

Long Beach, Calif. -- Making their annual trip to the west coast, the 16th-ranked Hatters split a pair of duals Friday in Long Beach, Calif.  Stetson (8-6) fell 3-2 to #13 Long Beach State in the opener before bouncing back back to sweep Utah 5-0.  The contests were played at the Long Beach City College complex with all five pairs competing simultaneously.

Stetson's top two seeds each went 2-0 on the day without dropping a set.  At Pair 1, Karin Zolnercikova and Shae Henson won 21-18, 21-15 against Long Beach State and 21-11, 21-13 vs. Utah.  At Pair 2, reigning ASUN Pair of the Week Carolina Ferraris and Anete Namike won 21-16, 21-18 vs. LBSU and 21-12, 21-10 against U00tah.

In the matchup vs. Long Beach State, the Hatters forced a decisive third sets at two of the remaining three pairs but couldn't nail down the victory.  However, Stetson posted wins at all five pairs vs. the Utes.  

At Pair 3, Noelle Weintraub and Audrey Gauthier won 21-23, 21-8, 15-6. At Pair 4, Gabriella Bramante and Lauren Della won 21-17, 21-19. And at Pair 5, Aleksandra Stadnik and Klea Sirois won 21-10, 21-10.

Stetson will get a rematch against #13 Long Beach State at 4:30 p.m. ET Saturday.  First, the Hatters will square off against beach volleyball newcomer Texas at 1:30 p.m. ET.  The Longhorns are playing their first season in the sand.
