Stetson Opens ASUN Conference Play with 5-2 Win

Box Score DeLand, Fla – Stetson (11-5, 1-0) won their ASUN conference opener against North Florida(8-6, 0-1) 5-2 on Friday afternoon.

The Hatters dropped the doubles point to the Ospreys to start the afternoon. North Florida took court one in the doubles as Alanna DiFrancesco / Magdalena Hedzak dropped 3-6. On court two Nadejda Maslova / Cheri Darley also fell 5-7.

Stetson would start singles play with DiFrancesco dropping 2-6,1-6 on court one. Cheri Darley would score the first point for the Hatters winning 6-3,6-3. Anais Gabriel would follow up with another win for Stetson on court 3, 7-6,6-4. Nadejda Maslova dropped her first set, but was able to come back to get the win 6-7,6-1,6-3.

Noa Cohen (4-6,7-6,6-3) and Magdalena Hedzrak (7-6,7-6) won the final singles matches of the day to give the Hatters the 5-2 victory.

"Huge team performance today. The way we got around each other and the support we gave, was exactly what we have been working hard to improve upon. It was a big difference today," head coach Travis Sandlant said. "We played for one another and the Stetson brand. That's the Hatter way!"

Stetson will be back at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. as they host Central Arkansas.
