Hatters Split With Texas, Long Beach on Saturday

Pairs 1 and 2 go undefeated on the weekend

Long Beach, Calif. -- For the second straight day, the 16th-ranked Stetson beach volleyball team split a pair duals Saturday at the Long Beach City College complex.  The Hatters (9-7) swept Texas 5-0 before falling to 13th-ranked Long Beach State 3-2 to complete their west coast trip with a 2-2 mark.

In the sweep of the Longhorns, the Hatters posted their second straight 5-0 win and their sixth 5-0 win of the season.

At pair 1, Karin Zolnercikova and Shae Henson battled their way to a 3-set victory, 21-14, 19-21, 15-10. At pair 2, Carolina Ferraris and Anete Namike cruised to a 21-15, 21-13 win.

At pair 3, Noelle Weintraub and Audrey Gauthier took the first set 21-10, then went deep into extra points before winning set 2 33-31.  With that total, Weintraub and Gauthier set a new school record for most team points in a set.  Zolnercikova and Hensen scored 32 points last week, while Julie Varga and Samantha Harris also scored 32 against UNF in 2019.

At pair 4, Lauren Della and Gabriella Bramante won 21-14, 21-10, and at pair 5, Aleksandra Stadnik and Klea Sirois won 21-15, 21-12.

Against LBSU, Stetson's top two seeds stayed hot and completed a perfect 4-0 weekend. At the 1s, Zolnercikova and Hensen rallied from a 1-0 deficit to win 17-21, 24-22, 15-10. It was their sixth win in a row.  At the 2s, Ferraris and Namike won 21-16, 21-13 to run their win streak to eight in a row.

However, LBSU won at the 3s, 4s and 5s to hold on for a 3-2 win.

The Hatters will return home next weekend to host the Stetson Beach Invitational.  The Hatters will welcome Coastal Carolina, FGCU, FAU and North Alabama to the Cooper Beach Courts on Friday and Saturday.  The four Stetson duals will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
