Hatters Win Two in Opening Day of Stetson Invitational

DeLand, Fla – On the first day of the Stetson Beach Invitational the 17th-ranked Stetson beach volleyball team won both matches. Stetson (11-7) defeated Coastal Carolina (14-7) in the morning matchup and In the afternoon matchup the Hatters beat FGCU (9-7).

In the matchup with the Chanticleers, pair 1, Karin Zolnercikova and Shae Henson fought their way back to a 3-set victory, 19-21, 21-18, 15-11. At pair 2, Carolina Ferraris and Anete Namike won 21-15, 21-18. Ferraris and Namike added to their win streak making it nine in a row.

At pair 3, Audrey Gauthier and Noelle Weintraub were defeated, 20-22, 17-21. At pair 4, Klea Sirois and Lauren Della picked up the win 21-12, 21-12 and at pair 5, Tori Clement and Gabriella Bramante won 23-21, 21-11.

In the afternoon matchup with FGCU, pair 1, Karin Zolnercikova and Shae Henson cruised to a 21-14, 22-20 victory. Zolnercikova and Henson increased their winning streak to eight in a row. At pair 2, Carolina Ferraris and Anete Namike would continue their winning ways to make it ten in a row with a 3-set match clinching 21-18, 19-21, 15-13. At pair 3, Noelle Weintraub and Audrey Gauthier would come up short in a 3-set match 19-21, 21-19, 11-15.

At pair 4, Klea Sirois and Lauren Della picked up the victory 21-16, 24-22. At pair 5, Tori Clement and Gabriella Bramante went to a third set and lost  21-18, 19-21, 15-17.

Stetson will return to action at the Cooper Beach Courts in day two of the tournament, playing at 10:00 a.m. against #14 FAU and then at 2:00 p.m. against North Alabama.
