Stetson Drops Close Match to Liberty

Box Score DeLand, Fla. – Stetson (15-7, 5-2) took on Liberty (15-7, 6-1) in a matchup of first place teams in the ASUN Thursday morning and fell 3-4.
 
Liberty took the doubles point to start the match. Noa Cohen and Anais Gabriel fell on court three to start doubles 1-6. On court two Magdalena Hedrzak and Pilar Astigarraga Harper won 6-3 to even up the doubles match. After a tough battle, Alanna DiFrancesco and Cheri Darley fell on court one 4-6.
 
In singles action, Magdalena Hedrzak scored Stetson's first point of the day winning on court five 6-1, 6-0. Liberty would score the next point to take the lead 2-1 as Alanna DiFrancesco dropped on court one 2-6, 0-6. Cheri Darley would finish next on court three for Stetson coming up short 3-6, 1-6.

Liberty would clinch victory as Pilar Astigarraga Harper lost 4-6, 1-6 on court six. Stetson would score their second point of the day as Noa Cohen picked up the victory on court four 6-4, 6-3. Anais Gabriel continues her dominance on court two as she won a three-set match 7-5, 4-6, 10-18 to make her 11-0 on court two for the season.

"That's a tough loss today. We knew what was on the line and we didn't get it done. Liberty out competed us today, so we will have to work on that before the ASUN tournament. We look forward to celebrating or seniors on Saturday and thanking them for their commitment to Stetson," said Stetson head coach Travis Sandlant.

Stetson will be at home again on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. as they face Queens. The Hatters will honor their seniors and Kona Ice will be on hand to distribute free ice to fans.
