Hatters Power Past South Carolina, Georgia State on Friday

Stetson defeats two Top 20 opponents

Atlanta, Ga. -- No. 20 Stetson opened the GSU Diggin' Duals with a bang, knocking off No. 16 South Carolina and No. 11 Georgia State by identical 3-2 scores Friday afternoon at the GSU Beach Volleyball Complex.

Both victories avenged losses earlier this season and improved the Hatters' record to 15-11 overall.  

Stetson got two huge three-set victories from the 5s, where Audrey Gauthier and Noelle Weintraub won 21-17, 13-21, 15-12 against South Carolina and 22-20, 17-21. 15-10 against Georgia State.  

Both duals were tied 1-1 after the first wave, and the Hatters took advantage by winning two of three each time in the second wave.

Against South Carolina, Carolina Ferraris and Anete Namike won 21-19, 21-19 at the 3s to give Stetson a 2-1 lead.  At the 2s,  Tori Clement and Gabriella Bramante outlasted Lauren Wilcock and Allison Coens in a three-set battle, 22-24, 21-11, 15-13 to clinch the dual for the Hatters.

Against Georgia State, Ferraris and Namike once again put the Hatters in front, this time with a 21-19, 21-19 victory on court 3.  On court 1, Karin Zolnercikova and Shae Henson sealed the win with a 21-15, 21-17 victory.

Stetson now has three Top 20 wins on the season.

The Diggin' Duals resume Satuday as the Hatters will face UT Martin at 8 a.m. and UAB at 1 p.m.
