Box Score Peachtree City, GA - Stetson (20-8) upset 61st ranked Colorado (13-13) in the NIT Semifinals to advance to the Championship match where they will face #45 TCU Saturday.
The Buffs would take the doubles point as they would win on courts one and three.
Alanna DiFrancesco and
Cheri Darley would fall on court one 4-6. On court three Magdalena Hedzrak and
Pilar Astigarraga Harper would come up short 2-6 to surrender the point to Colorado.
In singles action, Colorado would get another point from court five as
Magdalena Hedrzak would fall 3-6, 3-6.Â
Anais Gabriel would get the victory on court two 6-3, 6-3. On court three
Cheri Darley would get another point for the Hatters winning her match 6-2, 6-3. The score stood 2-2 after three courts finished.Â
Pilar Astigarraga Harper would come up short on court six 3-6, 1-6 giving yet another point to the Buffs. The overall score stood 3-2 in favor of Colorado.Â
Noa Cohen would tie the match up picking up a victory on court four 6-3, 6-4.
The match would come down to court one and
Alanna DiFrancesco for Stetson. DiFrancesco would pick up the hard fought win and seal the upset for the Hatters as she won 7-5, 6-3 to take down the 61st ranked Buffaloes. The victory marks the second most wins in program history as the Hatters notch their 20th of the season trailing only the ASUN Championship team from a year ago who had 22 victories on the season.
"Massive win today. Super proud of the fight from this team. To come back the way we did was awesome. Alanna pulled out a big clinch for us to get the victory," said Stetson head coach
Travis Sandlant.
Up next for the Hatters is an NIT Championship bout with the TCU Horned Frogs who are ranked #45. The NIT Championship will be live on Amazon Prime Video at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow.
